2D Shapes for kids!

From a very young age we teach our kids the basic 2D shapes – at home, in the kitchen, when we are in the car or at the shops. As teachers we need to nurture that knowledge further to establish a good understanding of 2D shapes in the classroom.

I created these cute 2D Shape posters for my class and my kids just love them! This will enhance your classroom décor and is a quick reference when you are teaching or revising 2D shapes. You can get them from my TPT store HERE.

1. Posters

Included is a set of flash cards and two games that kids can play to reinforce their knowledge of 2D shapes.

Print them in color or use the printer friendly black and white shapes and print them on color paper. Just laminate and you are good to go!

2. Fun Worksheets

As soon as your kids know the basic 2D shapes and you have taught them about straight versus curved sides, as well as whether a shape is regular or irregular it is time to practice with some worksheets! Just print and use. Answer keys are include to save you time!

I have added some fun activities:

  • Word Search: Then there is a 2D shape word search – I just love a word search!
  • Riddles: Your kids will enjoy the 2 riddles. What did the star say to the circle? and What do you call someone who doesn’t fit into a particular situation?

With the 2nd riddle the kids need to cut out the letters and paste them onto the answer sheet according to the numerical number. This is a great activity to practice fine motor skills and it also serves as language enrichment! Answer keys are included to save you some time!

We all have a few kids in class who just doesn’t like the pen & paper activities. Well, Easel to the rescue! Assign this activity to your class and get the digitally inclined kids enthusiastic and engaged! They even get a certificate at the end of the activity!

4. Free coloring page!

This count and color activity is great for shape recognition, counting, coloring, fine motor skills and concentration. It is also a lot of FUN and absolutely FREE! Grab it from my TPT store My Creative Maths.

Just print and let your kids enjoy this activity as part of the 2D Shape unit or use it as an activity at the end of the day or for early finishers.
